With the phasing out of technical support for Windows 7 (the end of the extended support phase comes to an end about a year), we can also expect to end support for various products and services on the platform. Windows Media Player is not an exception.

Specifically, the feature is paused to display different metadata when playing media. Generally, it is a title, a genre or an artist. Microsoft decided to take this step after analyzing the answers.

This change is directly related to Windows Media Player on Windows 7 devices and Windows Media Center on Windows 7 and 8.x platforms. With Windows Media Player, Windows 10 does not change anything. At the same time, the change does not affect the data downloaded up to now.

Playback or streaming of the media should continue to work. But it is not excluded that Microsoft "limits" in the same way the other features or products.

Of course, alternative products such as the VLC player (VideoLAN) can still be used.
