Slow down: Office chat app stops when people come back to work

Slack has stopped working properly, just as many people return to their real and virtual offices after the break.

Users weren’t able to send or receive messages reliably with chats appearing to be working and then getting stuck. The text appears to be sent but then appears grayed out in the chat, indicating that it was not actually delivered.

The Down Detector tracking website has shown an increase in reports of issues with the messaging app.

Some parts of the Slack website also appeared to be inaccessible.

But the company’s official Twitter account and server status page did not immediately register any problems.

It was then updated to make it clear that the company was aware of the issue and was working on a fix.

“Customers may be having trouble signing in to Slack to load channels right now. Our team is on the case and we’ll keep you posted, ”Slack wrote on Twitter. “My apologies for any disruption.”

The company has given no indication that it is aware of the cause of the issue, nor any indication of when it might be back online.

Slack – along with competitors such as Zoom and Microsoft’s Teams suite – has become a central part of lockdown work, as workplaces seek to allow their staff to communicate while being discouraged from going to offices.

This means that any outage can have an immediate and dramatic effect, with employees unable to communicate as usual.
