Hopes are high for the Cleveland Browns this coming season. Greedy Williams, the recent second round pick, was already asking them to play in the Super Bowl.
But one of the Las Vegas sports bets did not favor them, even for the playoffs.
The SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas opened the odds for the 32 NFL teams to make (or miss) the playoffs Sunday afternoon, with the Browns being one of the 120 favorite to miss the playoffs. Cleveland has not participated in the playoffs since 2002 and finished 7-8-1 last year (and 1-31 the previous two seasons).
"It's a very difficult division," SuperBook manager John Murray told ESPN. "I think people make a mistake when they write the Steelers, the Ravens should be solid again and the Bengals can not help being better with Marvin Lewis gone."
The Browns remain the favorite +140 to win the North AFC at the SuperBook, with the Steelers at +150 and the Ravens at +300.
Cleveland also opened with a total of nine wins (over -130, under +110), three more games than the last six games of last season.
The New England Patriots (11-5 last season) had the highest total of wins at 11, placing them at the top of the winning streak before the start of the season for the fourth year in a row and the tenth times since 2004. The Patriots are an NFL -best 13-3-1 on top since 2002.
The Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and New Orleans Saints are the only other teams to have double-digit wins at 10.5. And the total number of wins in Kansas City would have been higher without the last incident off the Tyreek Hill field.
"We have dropped [the Chiefs] by half a win, said Murray. "But I would not be shocked if Hill plays again at one point."
Kansas City still has the second-highest AFC rating at -550 to qualify in the playoffs (New England leads at -900). The Saints (-310), Rams (-310) and Philadelphia Eagles (-190) have the best odds in the NFC to play in the playoffs.
The Arizona Cardinals, quarterback Kyler Murray with the No. 1 draft pick in the NFL, are tied with the Miami Dolphins for the lowest total of five wins. Miami has the worst chance of making the post-season at +1100 (which means that a bet of $ 100 would win $ 1,100), followed by Arizona at +1000.
The regular NFL season will begin on Thursday, September 5th. The Chicago Bears will host the Green Bay Packers.
