Sly Cooper 5 rumors gain traction after recent PlayStation ad

Over the past few weeks, new rumors have started to circulate suggesting that a new installment in the long-running PlayStation franchise Sly Cooper could emerge for PlayStation 5. At this time, these rumors have not been verified. by no means, but a recent advertisement that was released by PlayStation has fans who believe that a potential Sly Cooper 5 could certainly be in the cards based on an Easter egg featured in the ad.

To kick off Sony’s recent PlayStation Showcase event, a new ad was released (which you can watch at the top of this page) that featured a number of recalls of popular PlayStation franchises from the past. While many of the more direct callbacks seen in the video were related to games on the PS5, a number of other surprises have been hidden, related to certain series that we haven’t seen or heard in quite some time. One of those secrets that turned out to be included was related to Sly Cooper. While the reference to the popular PlayStation mascot wasn’t even shown for a full second in the video, you can clearly distinguish the iconic symbol that represents Sly and his gang of thieves in the ad.

While there’s a good chance this reference to Sly Cooper was included by PlayStation just for fun, the fact that Sony is referring to Sly amid these ongoing rumors has certainly made some fans raise their eyebrows. And while this recall of Sly doesn’t mean anything at all, at this point longtime fans of the franchise will take hope in all its forms. After all, Sly hasn’t been seen or heard from since 2013 when Sly Cooper: Time Thieves released on PS3. He may be desperate to hope for a Sly revival based on that one teaser alone, but for better or worse, it’s the most open-ended way PlayStation has publicly acknowledged the character in quite some time.

So what do you think of this situation? Is this reference to PlayStation’s Sly Cooper just meant to be an Easter Egg, or could it indicate that a new entry is in development for PS5? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments or message me on Twitter at @ Mooreman12.
