Small earthquake hits Prince William Sound area in Alaska

The earthquake center in Alaska reports that a small earthquake struck the Prince William Sound region of Alaska.

The Fairbanks-based center says that a magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck Sunday at 11:48 am about 39 km northwest of Valdez, which has about 3,900 inhabitants. The center adds that the residents of Valdez have felt it.

The earthquake was 18 km deep.

The center says that at 10:31 am Saturday, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit the Andreanof Islands region in Alaska, about 11,200 miles west of Anchorage. This earthquake had a depth of about 13 km.

At 19:39 on Saturday, a magnitude 2.9 earthquake hit a point 7 kilometers southwest of Sterling, a town of about 5,600 people. The center indicates that the earthquake had a depth of about 35 km and was felt in Sterling.
