The Fortwo production in North America is expected to be completed in June, but the Smart brand will continue elsewhere. Daimler has signed an agreement to start selling its all-electric vehicles in China and will build a new factory in the country to produce these cars. Sales in the country are expected to begin in 2022. Even though it will not be available at dealerships, it appears that the Fortwo will remain in the United States as part of Daimler's newly renamed car sharing service, Share Now.
Despite its unique appearance and size, Smart just did not really appeal to the United States. The brand was launched in 1998, but was not shipped to North America before entering Canada in 2004 and then to America. Other electric cars offering more seating, better range and competitive prices complicated the new look to gain a lot of traction.
