Smashing Pumpkins performs “Quiet” for the first time since 1994 at Riot Fest

Smashing Pumpkins performed their siamese dream Favorite “Quiet” for the first time since 1994 at the band’s headlining concert Friday at Chicago’s Riot Fest, their first pandemic-era gig.

While “Quiet” was a staple of the setlist during Smashing Pumpkins’ siamese dream-era, Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin and company last performed the song together in September 1994, the last date of the nomadic Lollapalooza tour of that year; It is not known what inspired the band to dust off “Quiet” after giving it the Quiet Treatment for 27 years.

The semi-reunited Smashing Pumpkins’ Riot Fest marked the group’s first full concert since August 2019; having not performed together for nearly two years, the hometown Riot Fest show also featured the live debuts of three songs from Smashing Pumpkins’ LP 2020 Cyr: “The color of love”, “Ramona” and “Wyttch”. The group also unearthed Zeitgeist‘s “United States” for its first performance since 2015.

The Smashing Pumpkins will then take the stage on September 19 at Asbury Park, New Jersey’s Sea.Hear.Now Festival, currently the last concert of their 2021 itinerary.
