For the first time since the Seahawks signed Damon “Snacks” Harrison to their practice squad last month, head coach Pete Carroll has not answered any questions from members of the media about his availability.
Heaps: Seahawks offense must step up to help beat blitz
Carroll actually had something to say about Harrison, however, so he brought up the veteran defensive tackle shortly before the end of his weekly press conference on Wednesday.
“I can’t believe we’re almost done with this and no one has asked about the snacks,” Carroll said. “This is the first time you haven’t asked about snacks.”
Naturally, this led to a question about the old Pro Bowler.
“I have a real chance to play this week – yes he does. This could be his night out, ”Carroll replied. “… I hope he plays this week, so we can’t wait to get him involved.
Carroll said Harrison had a more realistic outlook on playing this week than any since signing with the team.
There is a flip side to this, however. Defensive tackle Bryan Mone’s ankle he sprained last Sunday against Buffalo is not in good shape, Carroll says, which is why the Seahawks are 6-2 likely to promote Harrison in the game’s active roster. of week 10 in Los Angeles. against the 5-3 Rams.
Harrison, 35, hasn’t played since Week 17 of last season when he was with the Detriot Lions.
Here are some more updates on Seattle’s list:
• Cornerback Shaquill Griffin will be in the mix to come back from a concussion and hamstring strain that kept him from playing since suffering the Week 7 injuries in Arizona. Carroll said only the hamstrings were what could keep Griffin from playing on Sunday.
“He manages it. We’ll see how he progresses over the course of the week, ”Carroll said. “If he has a chance to come back, we won’t know until the end (of the week).”
• Fellow cornerback Quinton Dunbar was noticeably slower than usual in the loss to Buffalo due to a lingering knee injury, and all signs point to him playing a long way against the Rams.
“Quinton’s knee has been bothering him for a while now, bothering him last weekend for sure, so we’ll have to deal with that,” Carroll said.
• To the ball carrier, first rusher Chris Carson (sprained foot) is ahead of the tailgate Carlos hyde (hamstrings) on his return from injury, so if we’re playing this week it’s probably Carson. Seattle signed Alex Collins to the practice squad last week and elevated him to the active roster for the Buffalo game with Carson and Hyde out of action.
• Staying in the backfield, there is another familiar face on the practice squad. Seattle announced on Wednesday that it had signed a running back Bo Scarbrough. You may remember Scarbrough better for his 180-yard, two-touchdown performance for Alabama in their Peach Bowl win over the UW Huskies in 2016, but he has experience with the team. Seahawks practice in his rookie season in 2018. He played six games. with Detroit last year.
• Nickel corner base Ugo Amadi (hamstrings) seem to have the best chance of coming back among the six players who have missed each of the last two games. Carroll said he would be “full out” for Wednesday’s practice and “looking forward” to Amadi playing in Los Angeles.
• Finally, defensive end Benson mayowa will have the week to show if he is healthy enough to return after two games with an ankle injury. Carroll said he was “struggling to come back” and “determined” to prove he was ready by the end of the week.
