Snap Inc. hired Kenny Mitchell as chief marketing officer, the company said Thursday, a few days after announcing better than expected sales in the first quarter and a growth in the number of users.

Mitchell joins McDonald's USA, Snapchat's parent company, where he led the company's marketing efforts as vice president of content and brand engagement. It will begin at Snap in June.

"Kenny's expertise in consumer marketing and deep knowledge of our products will be a great combination for Snap," company chief Evan Spiegel said in a statement. "Throughout his career, Kenny has demonstrated his ability to lead innovative and global marketing campaigns, many of which have leveraged our own vertical video and augmented reality products. It's only natural to join our team and lead marketing as we continue to generate the positive momentum we have in the industry. "

Earlier this week, Snap announced it has earned 4 million daily users in the first quarter, or 190 million users in all. This was a welcome change for investors following the bankruptcy of the company last year, as a result of poorly designed applications and the loss of 5 million users in the second and third quarters of the year. 2018.

Snap recently introduced several new shows and a gaming platform on Snapchat, giving the Los Angeles-based company more spots to reach users with ads.

Before joining McDonald's, Mitchell was the Consumer Engagement Manager at Gatorade.
