Snapchat is preparing an AR version of its prescription glasses

Hot on Niantic’s cock teasing a pair of AR glasses earlier this week, a new report from Information says the company is preparing a pair of its Spectacles glasses with appropriate AR functionality.

Snapchat has been selling its Spectacles camera glasses since 2016. Now in its third generation, the Spectacles glasses capture video from a first-person perspective, but do not actually include a display; the captured video should be played on smartphone or elsewhere and user can add Snapchat AR filters afterwards.

The company is now preparing to launch a suitable AR version of its Spectacles glasses, according to a report by Information citing sources “familiar with the company’s plans”.

The Spectacles AR glasses would initially be aimed at developers, who the company hopes will create filters and other applications before a possible mainstream offering.

Snapchat has gradually evolved into AR with the head with its Spectacles camera glasses, along with AR face filters and “ global lenses ” that put AR effects in the world. In 2019, the company announced plans to raise $ 1 billion to continue focusing on content, games, and AR features on its platform.
