Wallen, the country singer, was originally scheduled to perform as a musical guest on an October episode of the NBC show. But a Tik Tok video that week showed a man identified as Wallen drinking and kissing a woman in a bar surrounded by people not wearing masks or social distancing.

He later said he received a call from SNL unsoliciting him from this week’s show for violating Covid-19 protocols, and he apologized, saying his actions were “quite short-sighted.”

Wallen returned to the show for the Saturday episode to perform the songs “7 Summers” and “Still Goin Down,” and he also appeared in a skit as he stared himself on the night of that party.

In the track, a Wallen holding beer bursts into a bar dressed in the same outfit as in the Tik Tok video, and yells “No consequence!” A woman played by Chloe Fineman asks to kiss and film her, and he agrees, but “only if you promise not to post it on social media.”

“OK, just on TikTok, I promise,” she replies.

Episode guest Jason Bateman then arrives at the bar as Wallen from the future – wearing the same outfit – to try and get him to leave.

“I’m you from the future and came back here to stop you from partying tonight,” Bateman said. “Someone is going to post a video of you ignoring the Covid protocols, and the whole internet is going to panic.”

“I just asked him specifically not to publish it,” Wallen says.

Bateman says he’s actually Wallen from a month into the future, and SNL cast member Bowen Yang then comes in as a version of Wallen from two months into the future to warn him more of leave the party.

Eventually, Wallen gets the message, and he sings a new song he calls “Focus on the Future”.

“So let’s all raise a glass, and thank you in advance for giving that poor boy from the South a second Yankee chance,” he sings.
