“Saturday Night Live” avoided the Biden administration in its first episode since inauguration – and the omission has not gone unnoticed by some viewers.
The sketch show did not feature portraits of President Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday night, choosing instead to poke fun at controversial Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout and the GameStop saga.
“Why doesn’t SNL do ANY sketches on Biden ???” a seized person on Twitter.
Another spectator wrote: “Disappointed, I expected a stronger and funnier episode. Given Trump’s departure, Biden’s inauguration and this was the first episode of the new year?
The show was constantly inspired by Alec Baldwin’s impression of former President Donald Trump during his tenure and also usurped Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
However, after a month-long hiatus, some were surprised not to see an impression of Biden onscreen.
“I really wanted SNL to cover Biden’s inauguration …” a spectator wrote.
Lorraine Ali, the Los Angeles Times TV critic, noted that she felt SNL “suddenly seems lost” without Trump and that the show “struggled to find its place.”
