Saturday Night Live announced Thursday three new recruits before season 45, including the first member of the Asian cast.
Bowen Yang, who joined the series of late-night skit sketches as a personal writer last season, will become a featured actor this fall. He made his unofficial debut in March when he appeared as North Korean dictator Kim Jong-a against host Sandra Oh.
In addition to Yang, SNL recruited Chloe Fineman and other comedians Shane Gillis. Both will also serve the featured players. The three performers join the show after a major release: Leslie Jones, nominated three times at the Emmy Awards, recently announced that she would leave the series after five seasons.
Yang, Fineman and Ellis join members of the cast, Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Michael Che, Pete Davidson, Colin Jost, Kyle Mooney, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, Alex Moffat, Chris Redd, Melissa Villaseñor , Ego Nwodim and Kate McKinnon (who recently signed a new one-year contract).
SNL Season 45 will be launched on Saturday, September 28 (NBC, 11:30 / 10:30) with host Woody Harrelson and musical guest Billie Eilish. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Taylor Swift (October 5), David Harbor and Camila Cabello (October 12), Kristen Stewart (November 2) and Eddie Murphy (December 21) will also be present.
