After a month’s break, Saturday Night Live came back with a cold opening that encompassed a number of hot topics that arose while the show was on vacation, including the controversy surrounding Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, the GameStop situation, social media censorship and the return of Tom Brady at the Super Bowl.

In the segment titled “What’s Still Working?” Kate McKinnon reviewed some aspects of society – like government, economy, sports, and vaccine rollout – to see if they “still work.” His first guest was Representative Greene (Cicely Strong), who, like the true representative of Georgia, began to pitch conspiracy theories about the Parkland School gunfire and “Jewish space lasers” causing wildfires.

“And when your coworkers learned all about those hateful, psychotic things that you said, what did they do?” McKinnon asked.

“I was promoted to the education committee,” Strong’s Greene said.

After realizing the government was no longer functioning, McKinnon then took a look at the stock market with GameStop’s new majority shareholder Pete Davidson “Derrick Boner,” who helped establish that the stock market was no longer functioning either.

Next comes social media – Alex Moffat’s Mark Zuckerberg and Mikey Day’s Jack Dorsey – then the rollout of the vaccine, where McKinnon wonders how a country that only vaccinated a small percentage of its population managed to get it. one available for OJ Simpson (Kenan Thompson).

“Teachers can’t get vaccinated but you did? People with long term lung disease, but you did it? McKinnon asked. “So among the top 3 percent of all Americans who received the vaccine was OJ Simpson?”

“Hey, guilty has been charged,” Simpson joked of Thompson.

To close the segment, McKinnon praised the one thing that seems to work, Tom Brady (played by SNL John Krasinski), who will return to the Super Bowl next weekend, this time as quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“You’re still working. You’re supposed to win soccer games and you keep winning soccer games. You might be the one thing in America that still works,” McKinnon said. “So I guess everyone owes you. encourage, right?

“Hardly anybody,” said Brady of Krasinski.
