The same day as NBC Saturday Night Live his first Asian actor, Shane Gillis, another new season 45 rookie, uses racist slurs while criticizing Chinatown and its culture.

In a clip (incorporated below) of "Matt and Shane's Secret Podcast", dated September 2018 and highlighted on Twitter by freelance writer Seth Simons, Gillis refers to "f-king chnks" while chatting with Matt McCusker cohost in architecture and Chinatown restaurants. Gillis and McCusker also use racist pronunciations such as "derisory" and "nooders" and evoke the "f-king hassle" of communicating their menu commands to Chinese servers.

Gillis, who was recently recognized as a new face at the Just for Laughs Festival of 2019, was announced Thursday morning as one of SNLThe three new members of the cast, as well as Bowen Yang (who is Chinese) and ChloƩ Fineman, mentioned above.

NBC has not yet responded to TVLine's request to comment on Gillis' comments 11 months ago, in a video podcast on YouTube that has since been removed.
