On his last day in power, Donald Trump is preparing to rain pardons. Although he’s been a vocal critic of the president, Snoop Dogg is hoping to get one for an old friend. According to a Daily Beast report, Snoop is reaching out to Trump in hopes that he will forgive Death Row Records co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris.
Harris has been in prison for over 30 years for drug trafficking and murder. Snoop brought Harris’s case to the attention of Weldon Angelos, a former producer pardoned by Trump last year. Angelos had been sentenced to 55 years in prison for selling less than $ 400 worth of marijuana to an undercover police officer.
Angelos contacted Alice Johnson, a criminal justice lawyer who had her life sentence pardoned by the President. After meeting Snoop and Angelos, Johnson took the matter directly to Trump.
“The President knows how much this matter means to me,” Johnson told The Daily Beast. “Looking at the Michael Harris case, his story and what he’s been through, this is such an unfair deal.… He should have been home ten years ago. I really felt for this man. I’m hopeful he’ll be home before the Trump administration ends.
While presidential pardons at the end of an administration are common, those of Trump should come under scrutiny as a twice impeached.
