A winter storm across the southwest covered Las Vegas with half an inch of snow Wednesday, a record for that date, according to the newspaper. National Meteorological Service.
Snow was even higher – 1 to 3 inches – around Las Vegas, CNL affiliate KLAS said.

Thus, all tourists lined up on Wednesday at the famous "Welcome to the Fabulous Las Vegas Nevada" sign had a nice snowy background for their photos. And all those players rushing between the Strip casinos seemed to be walking in a neon-lit snowball.

But it was not even the first snowfall this month. Las Vegas also had some snow on February 10 and on Sunday and Monday this week.

Several days of snow in February are not common in Las Vegas. Since 1937, more than three days of snow were recorded in February – the last time in 1949.

The last time Las Vegas had had a measurable amount of snow, it was just over a decade ago, when on December 17, 2008, 3.6 inches fell. This month's result should therefore give Vegas residents the feeling of being overheated.

Heavy accumulations are rare

Snow is not unknown in Las Vegas, but it is rather rare. According to National Weather Service records, the heaviest snowfall occurred in January 1949, when 16.7 inches of snow fell this month. The most snowy February was in 1939, when 4.1 inches fell.

Wednesday's snowfall was also the second most recent date for at least half an inch of snow to fall during the winter season in Las Vegas. The last date for at least as much snow is February 25th, when just over half an inch fell off that date in 1987.

The current snow show is not over yet. The weather service predicts that Las Vegas will receive an additional half-inch of snow accumulation on Thursday.

If the weather conditions persist, the smart businessmen of Vegas could start getting paid.
