DENVER (CBS4) – We have a bitterly cold Saturday en route to eastern Colorado and believe it or not another wave of arctic air will push across the plains for Valentine’s Day. It will keep temperatures around 10 degrees or less throughout the weekend for most places along and east of Interstate 25.
The map below shows the high end of the potential high temperatures today in the Denver metro. This card is generous. In fact, we may not even get that heat. Some places can stay below 5 degrees.
As we head towards Saturday afternoon, snow will develop along the Front Range as a storm system moves out of the western United States. The snow is expected to last through the night and into Sunday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for all of eastern Colorado, including the entire Interstate 25 urban corridor. We expect a very light and fluffy snowfall with most of the metro in Denver potentially in the 3-6 inch range.
With the onset of a second cold snap, overnight temperatures will drop well below zero on Sunday morning. Just add a light breeze and we could see the wind chill values drop into the -20 to -30 degree range.
It is essential that you protect people, pets and pipes this weekend. Large animals that cannot get inside will need solid shelter and water that will not freeze.
Valentine’s Day will become the coldest on Denver’s climate record as high temperatures struggle to reach between 0 and 5 degrees. Sunday evening and early Monday we could see temperatures close to -20 degrees in some areas where we see partial clearing. If we keep cloudy, the troughs will likely be between -6 and -12 degrees.
