Of course, we all know it's snowing in Minnesota, but this month it has been excessive.

With 31.5 inches of snow Wednesday, the snowiest February of all the twin cities of Minneapolis / St. Paul. The 9-inch snow that the city received Wednesday surpassed the previous record of 26.5 inches, set in 1962.

according to CBS Minnesota, the last time 30 inches of snow fell in a single month in the Twin Cities – in December 2010 – Metrodome's roof collapsed.

Wednesday's snow in Minnesota was part of a sprawling storm system that caused bad weather in most of the eastern half of the country.

"We have had so many weather systems that we are running out of places to put snow on," Minneapolis Star-Tribune, a meteorologist with the Chanhassen National Weather Service, said.

The nearby town of St. Cloud, Minnesota, also crossed its February record, snowy, with 22 inches on Wednesday.

And it's far from over: we expect heavy snow and high winds for Saturday and Sunday, which "could cause blizzard conditions," said the weather service.

"It sounds like a pretty powerful storm," said Hasenstein, according to the Star-Tribune. "So beware of that."
