MADISON, Wisconsin (WMTV) – Dry air hampered Saturday night’s snow totals, but most picked up between 1 and 2 inches of snow in southern Wisconsin. Totals were much lower west of Madison thanks to the drier air. As expected, people along the border saw the least snow. Attention is turning to the next weather system that leaves tomorrow from the south-central plains.

A developing low pressure system will shift the northeast toward the Midwest and Great Lakes on Monday. Southern Wisconsin remains on the north side of the trail – along with most of northern Illinois. A heavy band of snow settles in this region tomorrow afternoon. The snow is expected to last all night until Tuesday and could even last until Tuesday evening. This long-lasting event can bring more than 6 inches of snowfall over much of the Chicagoland area and northern Illinois.

The big question is, will we see all of this? As of now, it looks far south of Wisconsin – especially counties and towns along the state border can see up to 2 inches of snow. Totals drop dramatically in Madison and there will be a clear cut in snow totals just north of the metro. However, the models were inconsistent with the path of the storm system. Any movement north or south can dramatically change the total snowfall. Light to moderate snow can start in Madison Monday evening and continue until Tuesday afternoon. Along the national border, this snow could be more moderate and sometimes heavy. Higher totals are expected in this region. Northwesterly winds will pick up, causing blowing snow and blowing snow. Gusts could reach 25 mph.
