Today is Ben Affleck’s birthday, and Zack Snyder took the opportunity to share a new photo of the actor’s first Batman costume fitting.
Zack Snyder takes a trip down memory lane while celebrating Ben Affleck’s birthday by sharing a debut Batman costume photo. Snyder was the one who introduced Affleck’s version of Batman to the DCEU with the 2016 film. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, putting him against Henry Cavill’s Superman in a fierce battle orchestrated by Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg). While there was some trepidation from fans regarding Affleck’s cast, he quickly became a favorite. He would later make appearances in Suicide Squad and Justice League.
After the last DCEU movie, Affleck began to move away from Batman in the franchise. He had originally planned to write, direct and star in his own solo film, but then resigned. The batman has since moved on with Robert Pattinson. Affleck seemed to be completely done with the DCEU, but last year saw him return for two major projects: Zack Snyder Justice League and The flash, which is currently filming and will be released next year. He will appear alongside Michael Keaton’s Batman in the multiverse exploration film.
August 15 marks Affleck’s 49th birthday and Snyder made sure to commemorate it with a new behind-the-scenes photo. Posting on his Vero account, Snyder revealed a photo of Affleck in his Batman costume that he “Shot on my phone on October 23, 2o13. This early adjustment must have been for Batman vs. Superman, months before principal photography begins. You can see the post below.
Affleck filmed a new scene for Zack Snyder Justice League, which was finally released earlier this year after years of fan campaigning. Batman played a big part in Snyder’s original DCEU plans, and Affleck’s new scene was factored into the epilogue which was meant to set up Knightmare’s much-publicized timeline. Fans have always called for Snyder’s DCEU story to continue, but Warner Bros. said he did not intend to do so.
Despite this, many are still passionate about the world Snyder himself started. Affleck’s Batman was a key part of it, and in many cases he hardly had the chance to live up to his potential. Yes he will come back for Flash, but it’s not yet clear if there will be more movies coming up for him afterwards. Even if there isn’t one, Affleck certainly marked the role of Batman, and audiences won’t soon forget. Snyder has repeatedly supported actors he cast for the DCEU, such as Cavill and Affleck. Between Snyder’s efforts and those of the dedicated fanbase, Affleck will remain one of the most memorable Batman actors in DC history.
