Soapbox: I Wasn’t Going To Play Monster Hunter Rise, But The Art Of The Game Is Too Cute

Do you know those friends that you communicate with entirely through TikTok gifs and links? Well last week my best friend sent me this:

I’ve only ever played one Monster Hunter game, and that was Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS. I liked it, for the most part – I played with a few friends who were a lot more experienced than me, and they helped me take down some of the trickier monsters. I also had the sweet Poogie with me to make it all go well with his TINY LITTLE BEE COSTUME. Honestly, how is there not a game on Poogie? I only kill monsters to keep my boy in new outfits.

Then again, there were outfits for me too – the amazing sets that I would make from the different pieces of monsters that I cut to my prey. Although the sex was locked – so sometimes my friends would get cool armor, and I would get a terrible bikini, or sometimes I would get something rad, and they would get, like, a teddy bear outfit – the outfits were my second favorite part of the game. After Poogie, obviously.

And then I faced off against Gore Magala, a purple wyvern thing that I hope is in hell right now. I faced Gore Magala about five times before I gave up and sold the game. I’m sorry, Poogie. I failed you.

So I wasn’t too interested in Monster Hunter Rise, having regularly skipped the latest MH games. I prefer my wrists and fingers intact, thanks, and Monster Hunter isn’t exactly known to let players choose the easy way out.

But Capcom keeps releasing these cute little pieces of art that remind me of why I make like Monster Hunter games. There is a lot of humor, sweetness and light among all the dragon killings and egg crushing. And yes, my wrists won’t thank me, especially if I choose a weapon as delicate as the Insect Glaive again, but I’m just going to take breaks to walk around town with Poogie.

Hold on, Poogie is absolutely in this one, right?
