Soapbox: Sony should celebrate the acquisition of Insomniac with the remastering of the resistor

Since the creation of the Resistance trilogy for PlayStation 3, Insomniac Games has moved to much bigger and better things, but I still love the exclusives of the alternative story. The launch of its costly new generation console alongside a game at Grimsby was bold, but the Ratchet & Clank developer exploited the monumental backdrop of England, thanks in part to the fantastic loop of the game of Fall of Man .

Although I do not remember much about storytelling outside an extraterrestrial invasion, the studio's penchant for exciting game gauntlets has kept me up to date. Fall of Man, in particular, was defined by his old weapons wheel, and he really distinguished himself at a time when Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was spearheading the shift to more realistic shipments consisting of only two or three firearms at a time.

Admittedly, Division 2, Resistance, fell into this trap, but the first and third games both had their unique identities. I've always been impressed by how the developer has been able to replicate Ratchet & Clank gadgets in such a different context. The guns in Resistance allowed you to shoot through the walls and twist the balls in the corners. It was very entertaining, and the wheel of arms allowed you to always have a multitude of options at each meeting.

This approach to combat is reflected in the latest versions of the developer; Marvel's Spider-Man, for example, offers a lot of creativity when you unlock all the gadgets of the superhero. But I think the Resistance series had some of the studio's best combat concepts: the Mutator in Resistance 3, for example, could be used to counter enemies against each other in a strange biological twist. And the V7 Splicer of Resistance 2 could be used to easily cut alien flesh.

While the original game was defined by its depressing visual style, I think that Resistance 3 had a very interesting aspect. Insomniac Games has tried to capture the feel of Grindhouse movies, with chromatic aberration and a rich film grain. The problem was that the PS3 was not powerful enough to work properly, resulting in a lower-than-standard resolution that gave the impression that Vaseline had been smeared all over the screen.

Obviously, porting on the PS4, much more powerful, would allow the games to achieve their full potential, and even if they would appear outdated by modern standards, there is nothing like them on the console for the moment. It's not inconceivable to imagine the three games shot at 60 fps checkered 4K on PS4 Pro, and like other exclusive PlayStation remasters such as Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, moments such as the invasion the ship Chimeran still shines.

Whether or not the platform holder is interested in wearing the multiplayer modes is a matter of debate, but I have fond memories of the cooperative mode of Resistance 2, which served as a stand-alone campaign and was beautifully designed. The second game, of course, also offered up to 60-player competitive battles – a precursor to the Battle Royale craze and a game record before Zipper Interactive's underrated MAG launch.

Listen, there is no doubt that Insomniac Games has evolved since the creation of the Resistance series, but the trilogy still has incredible heights – especially during fights. The future of the developer may remain between Spider-Man and Marvel's Ratchet & Clank, but let's not forget its origins either. Activision recreated with love the titles of the studio Spyro the Dragon, and Resistance certainly deserves a place also on the current Sony console.
