Bryson DeChambeau finished his first round of the Masters, and that was something.
After crushing the discs during practice, he made some big statements about the course and how far he wanted to hit the discs.
“I consider this a par 67 for me because I can hit all par-5s in two, no problem,” DeChambeau told the media on Tuesday. “If the conditions stay as they are, this is how I feel about myself.” I’m not the one with the big head. I can hit him as far as I want … “
Oh, and he struck away. And sometimes wide. Sometimes in the bushes. DeChambeau, who started the tournament as a big favorite, doubled the par-5 13th, but rallied to finish 2 under par and tied for 11th place.
Here are some of the social media reactions to sum up DeChambeau’s first wild ride at Augusta National.

Don’t talk too much about the Masters course. Just a good tip.
Finally Bryson DeChambeau and I have something in common. ?? https://t.co/TymHgcZ2Cw

This is the 13th hole. Taking a 7 on the par-5 hole, his shots essentially became an actual “how it started / how it went” meme if both sides were bad.
DeChambeau, who started his round on the 10th hole, sailed left on the 18th and first hole.

The stray photo of No.1 prevented the world from seeing Nick Faldo naked.
“When he does, I’ll jump out of my [broadcast] lap and run naked around Augusta National, ”Faldo, a CBS broadcaster for the Masters, told media that DeChambeau was using his driver to reach the green on the 445-yard par 4 first hole.
DeChambeau rallied around and got through some of the off target workouts. You could tell he beefed up his way to a decent finish on Thursday.

Bryson DeChambeau shoots a 3-over 70 to start his fourth Masters. Not so bad considering a start that made him look like he wanted to eat pine needles on the 13th.
