PRAIRIEVILLE, Louisiana (WAFB) – A Louisiana State Police soldier was found dead in Ascension Parish on Saturday, October 9, sources said.

Officials earlier confirmed that a law enforcement officer was injured in a shooting on Dutton Road, just off the Airline Highway in Prairieville.

Sources familiar with the incident said the soldier was found dead in a vehicle. His name has not been released.

Authorities also believe there is a link between the soldier’s death and Matthew Mire, 31, a person of interest in a double shootout not far from where the soldier was found which resulted in the death of a woman and seriously injured a man.
