Some schools are choosing to forgo President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, over concerns about the potential violence that could be broadcast in classrooms.
In Dallas, some school districts are refraining from showing live footage in the classroom as Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris are sworn in. The Keller Independent School District allows parents to excuse their children from watching the event, while in Plano, administrators have decided not to broadcast the ceremony, The Dallas Morning News reported.
The Independent School District of Sheldon, near Houston, sent a letter to parents explaining that students would watch clips of the event the next day.
Security in Washington DC has increased exponentially since supporters of President Trump stormed the US Capitol on January 6 in a deadly siege that ended in five deaths – including a Capitol Hill police officer – and dozens of arrests.

The Bangor, Maine School Department has said it recognizes the historic event but the grand opening will not be presented in classrooms “due to the threat of potential violence,” the Bangor Daily News reported.

The Ossining Union Free School District in New York State has also chosen not to show students.
“To ensure the social and emotional well-being of our students, the significance and impact of the inauguration and transfer of power will certainly be topics of discussion in our classrooms, but we will not be broadcasting the ceremony live. in elementary schools, ”explains the superintendent. Raymond Sanchez said in a letter explaining the move.

Other districts take a different approach. In Plam Beach, Florida, teachers were told they could show the event if it related to their classroom lessons. They should approach the issue in a “balanced and fair” manner, WMFE-TV reported.
