Some Uia pilots from Philadelphia will participate in the next event

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Some Uber drivers in Philadelphia will take part in a protest against the company on May 8th.

The event will coincide with protests in six major cities in the United States.

A BBC report quoted in a previous version of this article indicated that Philly Uber drivers would join drivers from other cities for a 12-hour strike. However, a representative of local Uber pilots told Action News that this is not the case.

Ali Razak, president of the Philadelphia Limousine Association and a member of the Philadelphia Drivers Union, said participating pilots will gather at Uber Greenlight Hub on Bartram Avenue on May 8.

Participating pilots will not accept rates during this period, said Razak, but some Uber pilots will accept fares in the city during this time.

Razak said the drivers were protesting against poor working conditions, low wages and public safety.

The protest coincides with Uber's first trading day on Wall Street.

When asked to comment on the planned event, a representative of Uber Corporation highlighted the driver's recognition award distributed prior to the IPO, as well as programs to help drivers save money. Gas, additional ways to earn money and educational opportunities.
