A patent recently discovered by Sony shows what can only be a gaming platform and we quickly realized that drawing was not just a concept. According to a tweet removed from a video game developer, this is the current design of the PlayStation 5 development kit. It is too early to tell if the development kit and the final version of the PS5 will share the same curves, but we already have some beautiful renderings that can imagine what a PS5 based on filtered design might look like.
Let's start with the image that Sony has included in the documentation filed with Brazilian regulators:
The same blog that found the patent of Sony, LetsGoDigital, then created the renderings you'll see below, giving us a great overview of Sony's design.
Rather than the matte black-and-white images of the original drawing, these renderings give us a better idea of what PS5 might be like in real life, assuming that Sony uses this design for the next-generation console. The renderings also benefit from all the details provided by Sony, with the exception of the PS5 and SSD logos (and these creations). LetsGoDigital watermarks slapped on it).
On the front, the device has many buttons and ports, as well as an opening for the disks. The V-shaped cut is rather unusual and certainly differs from the more boring design of the PS4. The V could be a clever way to point out that it's actually PS5. This could also help with ventilation and improve the overall appearance of the console, assuming that the LED lights would shine through these openings. Once again, that's more important in the PS5 than what the console will look like, and we already know that the PS5 will be a real beast for performance. That's what Sony has already confirmed.
That said, it is too early to like or dislike this concept, because Sony is far from confirming the details of the design of the PS5. At best, the console will be unveiled next February at a special PlayStation press event.
