Someone put the ray tracing into Minecraft and the result is amazing

Real-time light effects are one of the strengths of high-fidelity games such as Battlefield V and Metro Exodus, but they are now also available in the large world of Minecraft. A modder has created a ray tracing shader for use in the classic building set.

So, technically, the rendering method used by Sonic Ether to create real-time global illumination in Minecraft is called path tracing. The difference is that the tracing uses rays that bounce several times in a scene, but its effect is similar to that of ray tracing: superbly lit and shaded scenes, even in an aspect as simple as Minecraft.

An artist who goes through @notglacier spotted the shader and posted a few short videos about his appearance in the game. The results are quite amazing: gorgeous sunshine beams crossing a glass ceiling on a shiny and reflective floor, and a torch emitting a realistic warm glow to the nearest second. You almost forget you're watching Minecraft – until it sinks a switch to the wall and you remember the original, pixel-texture graphics. In any case, it is an impressive job.
