Devon Dalio, the 42-year-old son of hedge fund founder Ray Dalio, died in a car crash this week, a family spokesperson said on Friday.
The family spokesperson confirmed the death in an accident Thursday afternoon at Hearst Connecticut Media. He crashed his Audi at a Verizon store in a shopping mall and caught fire, Greenwich Police and Fire Chief Joseph McHugh said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, said Mark Zuccerella, public information officer at the Greenwich Police Department. The Verizon store was largely destroyed, the newspaper reported.

In a tweet, Ray Dalio – the billionaire founder of Westport, Bridgewater Associates in Connecticut – known as the world’s largest hedge fund – said his family were “ crying and dealing and would rather be in secrecy for now. ”
“ We know that the terrible pain that we are feeling has been and continues to be felt by so many others, so our sympathies are with them, ” he said in a follow-up tweet. “God be with you and cherish your blessings, especially at this time of year.
According to Devon Dalio’s LinkedIn page, he worked as a project manager at Bridgewater Associates. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Dalio Foundation, according to the foundation’s tax returns. In addition to his parents Ray and Barbara Dalio, he is survived by a wife, daughter and three brothers, the newspaper reported.

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, a resident of Greenwich, issued a statement in which he said he was “devastated” by the death of Devon Dalio.
“As parents, we can’t imagine the heartache and sadness of their loss,” Lamont said. “Our prayers go out to Ray and Barbara who were the Connecticut Children’s Champions.”
