The three-minute trailer, starring star Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman alongside CGI's hedgehog, made its debut on Tuesday and was greeted with a lot of mockery. Keith Stuart, of The Guardian, described it as "a slap in the face" and stated that the central character "looked like a cheap Sonic toy that your child could win at a fair booth and then terrified". The human-shaped teeth of the character have attracted special attention on social media.

Sonic the Hedgehog is a film in development since the Hollywood studio Sony acquired the rights of adaptation in 2013. However, the project could not start, and the rights were transferred to Paramount in 2017. The film's release is scheduled for November.
