The HDC-5500 is equipped with 4K CMOS 2/3 "image sensors with global shutter. Using a powerful 4K video processor, the 4K can be output directly from the camera head for live broadcast.

The HDC-5500 supports fiber optic transmission as standard, with a standard SMPTE interface for connection to associated HDCU-5500 series camera control units. It is easy and quick to reconfigure the camera at any time for third-generation digital triax fiber optic or wireless operation with a choice of optional outdoor panels. Sony also indicates that the HDC-500 is capable of sending 4K wireless.

The camera can capture high speeds in HD via an optional HD HFR pay license.

The HDC-5500 replaces the HDC-3500 as Sony's new 4K HDR shoulder-mountable outdoor broadcast camera.

The HDC-5500 seems to be a good solution for broadcasters looking for a high-quality, shoulder-mounted camera for sports events and other live broadcast applications.

We currently have very little information on the full capabilities of the camera, but we assume that they will be very similar to those of the HDC-3500.
