A note on PS5 restocking
Replenishing the PS5 is incredibly difficult to pin down. Despite our best efforts to bring you timely updates, Tom’s Guide cannot guarantee that you will be able to purchase a console. Nonetheless, we are committed to providing you with up-to-date information on all restockings as soon as they occur.
Sony Direct is having an invite-only PS5 restocking event on Tuesday, August 17 at 12 p.m. PT / 3 p.m. ET. This will be the first Sony Direct PS5 restock of the month. You will be able to get the PS5 for $ 499 through this link or the PS5 Digital for $ 399 through this link.
In the past, Sony has offered restocking of the PS5 to the general public after its invite-only event. However, this is not always a guarantee. Still, it’s worth clearing your schedule in case there is a Sony Direct PS5 restocking for the general public. Today’s restocking news was first reported by the PS5 tracker Wario64.

The flagship console of the PS5 includes a 4K UDH Blu-ray disc player. As a result, the design is slightly more complete than the fully digital model. It sells for $ 499 and includes a PS5 DualSense controller.

Digital PS5: $ 399 @ Sony Direct

How to receive notifications from Sony Direct
In order to get exclusive Sony Direct invitations, you must have an active Sony Direct account and ensure that notifications are set to “yes”. Creating a Sony Direct account is easy. You can register via this link here. Once you’ve created an account, you’ll want to add your address and billing information. Having this information in a file will make it easier if you can manage to get a PS5 console in your cart.
To activate Sony Direct notifications, you will need to log into your account, click on “My Profile” and then on the “Edit” button on your profile page. You will then be redirected to a new account settings page. From this page, choose “notifications” in the left column, then be sure to sign up to receive Sony news and specials.
Keep in mind that this tip does not guarantee that you will receive an invitation in time for the next PS5 delivery, but it should increase your chances for the next Sony Direct PS5 exclusive restocking event.
How to get a PS5 if you haven’t received an invite
Usually, after an invitation-only PS5 restock, Sony tends to open its virtual queue to the general public. However, this is not always a guarantee. (Last month the retailer completely sold out). If there are any additional consoles, a restocking for the general public will likely take place after the invitation-only event ends. (Usually an hour or two after the start of the original fall). Of course, you can bookmark our page and we’ll keep you up to date with the latest PS5 restocking news from Sony Direct and all major US retailers.
What to do once you are in the queue
Once you are in the virtual queue, you will receive an estimate of the waiting time. All wait times vary and there is a good chance you will have “over an hour” of wait. If so, don’t despair. Your status can change quickly and you may have a shorter wait time than you expect. (For example, after waiting 20 minutes on a previous PS5 replenishment event, our time dropped from “over an hour” to just 15 minutes).
Additionally, you may need to resolve a captcha. (A simple challenge / question to make sure you’re not a bot). This usually requires you to select a radio box. As a result, you’ll want to make sure that your browser tab remains visible, because if it doesn’t, you could miss your captcha challenge and lose your place in the queue.
