Sony reportedly funded Kojima Productions’ Silent Hill game

Silent Hill PS5 PlayStation 5

It’s the rumor that just won’t go away: A new Silent Hill game is apparently funded by Sony, and Death Stranding developer Kojima Productions is reportedly at the helm. Yesterday we announced that Konami is looking to reboot a number of its most popular properties, including Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania. As part of this report – first published by VGC, then later corroborated by Eurogamer – there were rumors that “several Silent Hill games” were “in development at various external development studios.” We already know that a project is almost certainly managed by the Polish team Bloober.

But according to Gematsu, citing “a publishing source,” one of the Silent Hill games is run by Kojima Productions, with Sony picking up the bill. This isn’t the first time that the cult horror franchise has been associated with PlayStation: last year there was a strong connection between Japan Studio and the series, before the developer was ruthlessly shut down. Since then, some fans have felt that the ongoing Abandoned saga was a ruse by Hideo Kojima, which ultimately turned out to be false.

The author of the story, Andy Robinson from VGC, said earlier today that he had heard nothing about Kojima Productions making a Silent Hill game: “All I can say is that the Japanese studio referenced in my report is not Kojima Productions. It is very possible that there are several games going on in Japan, or that external studios are working together, but that is speculation on my part. Sal [Romano] in Gematsu is a great journalist so I have no doubts about his information.

This story isn’t going to go away, is it?
