Sony supports single-player play in leaked PlayStation documents

Sony Single Player

We all know Sony loves its single player games. Over the past generation, the company has produced a number of solo-focused blockbusters – God of War, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Ghost of Tsushima to name a few. All these titles reviewed and sold extremely well, to the point that the PlayStation brand is now synonymous with immersive single player games.

But even taking all of that into account, it’s hard to ignore the gargantuan success of multiplayer titles like Fortnite and Grand Theft Auto Online. Making success on this kind of scale is certainly not easy, but the payoff for it is a revenue stream unlike anything else in the game.

This is something Sony is well aware of. According to a leaked presentation – obtained by Vice – the Japanese giant is making a point by stating that “everyone knows only one player is dying”. A disturbing phrase, until you realize that Sony actually disagrees with it.

After sharing some internal data on how PlayStation users spend their time, the presentation continues: “Single player is on the rise”. Indeed, Sony research suggests that gamers are regularly turning to offline gaming. It’s pretty safe to assume that Sony will stick with its commitment to single-player games as we enter the PS5 generation.
