Sony X900H, XH90 and other models also get new PS5 features

There is good news for owners of last year's Sony X900H / XH90 as this model will also be getting the new PS5 features announced yesterday. X80J and X85J are included too.

Almost Perfect for PS5
Yesterday, Sony announced two new 'Perfect for PlayStation 5' features for its high-end 2021 models; Auto HDR Tone Mapping (based on HGiG) and Auto Genre Picture Mode (based on ALLM).

Sony has confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that the same two features are coming to last year's X900H / XH90 as well as two of the more affordable 2021 models, X80J and X85J, through future firmware updates.

However, these models will not be marketed as 'Perfect for PS5' since the program also sets other requirements – let's call them 'Almost Perfect for PS5'.

Sony has a busy few months ahead of it with major updates for TVs and PS5. Besides HGiG and ALLM, the company has confirmed that its TVs will get HDMI 2.1 VRR before the end of 2021. Although not official, we would expect PlayStation 5 to gain VRR support right around the same time.

Auto HDR Tone Mapping
With Auto HDR Tone Mapping*, the HDR settings will be optimised instantly during your PS5 initial setup. The PS5 will automatically recognise individual BRAVIA TV models and select the best HDR setting for the TV accordingly. With the optimised HDR tone mapping level to your BRAVIA display specification, you’ll see crucial details and colours even in high contrast scenes. For instance, you will get the addition of detailed objects on the track in Gran Turismo 7 so you know just how to make your next move. 
*Software updates on both PS5 and BRAVIA are required. Available by the end of 2021.

Auto genre picture modeBRAVIA XR TVs can detect whether you are playing a game or watching movies and shows.  With Auto Genre Picture Mode, your TV will automatically switch to Game Mode when you play games, which minimizes input lag to make the action more responsive, or Standard Mode when watching movies via a TV service. streaming or from an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc on the PS5, which shifts the focus on image processing for a more expressive picture.  Auto Genre Picture Mode will be available through a future software update on PS5 and BRAVIA TVs by the end of 2021.
