It seems that a Sony Xperia Compact smartphone is in preparation, more than a year and a half after the release of the latter, which is perhaps the biggest news for Sony smartphone fans a long time ago.
It's according to the most reliable source possible – Sony itself. The company has released a short video on its Instagram page, which undeniably teases the return of the Xperia Compact range.
Although the video does not show a phone itself, it displays the words "Xperia in the palm of your hand", which is not really subject to interpretation. This announcement is followed by "IFA 2019 Berlin 13:00 CET", which means we'll see the phone at the upcoming IFA 2019 electronics show. Sony has notably forgotten to name a date, but we can complete it in blank: the Sony press the show is September 5th.
We do not know much about the Sony Xperia Compact phone because we've heard rumors about loads different handsets of society, so it may be difficult to determine which one is which. It is possible that this device is the Sony Xperia 2, that we expect to see, or just a compact version of it.
The return of the compact range of smartphones from Sony is great news because they have proved extremely popular with fans of phones. The latest compact phone was the Xperia XZ2 Compact, launched in early 2018, and the Xperia XZ3 from IFA 2018 did not have a compact alternative.
The Sony Xperia 1, spiritual successor of the XZ3, also did not have a compact version, although the Xperia 10 is a more affordable version.
