Sony’s first PS5 ad lists lots of features, but no price

Sony is set to start marketing its next-gen PlayStation 5 console with ads, but the new one-minute spot doesn’t include any PS5 games and the all-important price tag. Instead, Sony chose to focus on supporting 3D audio and the PS5’s DualSense controller support for haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Sony is promoting the PS5 as a console that will allow gamers to “feel more”, with games that allow people to “see with sound”. It’s a big bet on immersion for the next generation of games, which Sony has been teasing for months. Sony focused on the audio portions of its PS5 event in June, and the controller has been at the center of the PS5’s first and only practice so far.

The ad is designed for PlayStation gamers to “see the functionality of the new console come to life through a young woman’s eyes and her movements,” said Mary Yee, head of global marketing at Sony Interactive Entertainment. “We are very excited about these features and we can’t wait for you all to be more immersed in the gaming world with the PS5 console and DualSense wireless controller in your own hands.”

While Sony is clearly excited about 3D audio and its new PS5 controller, PlayStation fans are still waiting to learn more about pre-orders and pricing. This new PS5 ad doesn’t offer any indication of when we’ll know more about a price or the availability of pre-orders.

Sony has reportedly fought to keep its PS5 price low due to the component shortage. Sony has embarked on a discless version of the PS5, which could spark a next-gen price war with Microsoft. According to rumors, the manufacturer Xbox is launching a second, cheaper, less powerful, second-generation Xbox Series S console than the Xbox Series X.
