Sony's new USB-C hub promises the fastest data transfer and upload

USB-C hubs are (unfortunately) quite common nowadays, and Sony is now entering the game with the MRW-S3, a nice hub that verifies a bunch of high-end specification boxes like 100W USB-C PD and a UHS-II SD card reader that most people do not see.

For all hubs, the most important specifications are the ports offered. Sony has many: there is an HDMI port for video (with support for 4K video at 30 fps), a USB-C PD port to connect the power supply (up to 100W above) , a USB-C port and USB-A for external devices and accessories, both designed for the USB 3.1 Gen 2. Sony also indicates that its specifications make it its fastest hub on the market, with transfer speeds up to 1000 MB / s, at least for the USB-C port. And finally, a slot for SD card and microSD, both designed for UHS-II cards.

Finally, there is a last USB-C port to connect the hub to a computer with a USB-C to USB-C cable included, which is nice to the touch – most hubs offer only a built-in cable or connector, while that the separate cable leaves room for users to replace it with a new cable if this part is damaged, or with a longer cable, if they need more flexibility.

There are some problems: there is only one USB-A port, for example, which is usually one of the main reasons to buy a hub of this type, but the addition of a second USB-C port for data (next to the usual port). for power) gives me hope that the USB-C finally wins enough ground so that a second USB-A port is no longer needed. There is also no Mini DisplayPort, which other high-end hubs offer.

Unfortunately, Sony has not yet announced the essential details of the MRW-S3: the price, which will probably make the difference to determine whether it is worth buying. But at least on paper, Sony seems to have provided a high-end USB-C hub for more demanding use cases than the average hub.
