Take a look at the high-end Sony Xperia 1 III
Like the latest model, Sony’s Xperia 1 III is aimed at power users, so it continues to include a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot. To ensure the best audio experience, Sony also kept the dual front speakers, leaving the bottom of the house for the USB-C port.
Sony is not holding back in the camera department
The exact specs aren’t available at this time, but the new zoom camera is expected to offer at least 5x optical zoom, although 10x cannot be ruled out, and it will be sitting next to a 3D time-of-flight sensor, the camera, and what is probably an ultra-wide shooter.
Like last year, the entire camera system was developed in partnership with ZEISS and sports a ZEISS T coating.
As for the selfie department, there is a single sensor in the top bezel. Its specifications have not been revealed.
The Xperia 1 III is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 888
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 should sit at the heart of the Sony Xperia 1 III. The latter is also used in the US Galaxy S21 models and means that the next Xperia flagship will be one of the fastest phones on the market.
As Hemmerstoffer himself corroborated, the Xperia 1 III offers 5G network support as standard, just like the previous generation model. The most efficient modem means that the battery drain should be less noticeable.
RAM and storage are a bit of a mystery, but an educated guess can be made. Sony’s Xperia 1 II shipped with an 8/256 GB configuration last year, so the same could be said for the 2021 model. It remains to be seen whether more expensive variants are on the way.
Sony Xperia 1 III announced, release date, price
The Sony Xperia 1 III is expected to be announced later this quarter, possibly in late February or March. A launch date soon after would be ideal, but Sony tends to ship its flagships Xperia 1 towards the end of the second quarter. If that is the case in 2021, expect the Xperia 1 III to hit the market around June.
The price is more of an estimate at this point, although the Xperia 1 II sold for $ 1,199 last year and it wouldn’t be surprising to see Sony positioning the Xperia 1 III in a similar fashion by focusing on a segment of niche rather than the mainstream market.
