Sony’s Pulse 3D wireless headset for PlayStation 5 has so far only been available in white to match the PlayStation 5, but a black version (“Midnight Black”) is coming, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Wednesday. The Midnight Black version of the Pulse 3D headset will release on October 22, according to PlayStation Direct. It will cost $ 99.99, the same price as the launch version in white.

Sony’s new iteration of wireless headphones will match the Midnight Black DualSense controller released in June. Logically, this can only mean one thing: eventually, Sony will have to release a PS5 Midnight Black. You know, once the world’s painful supply chain, manufacturing and shipping issues have been resolved and Sony’s new console is available, which might only be a few years away!

In the Sony PlayStation Blog announcement, Isabelle Tomatis, Senior Director of PSVR, Esport, Device Marketing and Licensing at SIE, noted that the Pulse 3D headset is “uniquely designed to take full advantage of the The console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech technology, with tuned frequency response to help gamers place sounds more precisely in exact locations to match on-screen gameplay.

The Pulse 3D will also be able to take advantage of the latest PlayStation 5 system update, available Wednesday, thanks to a new equalizer control feature in the console’s sound settings.

“Pulse 3D headset users can choose from three presets – Standard, Bass Boost or Shooter, which are designed to put more emphasis on footsteps and gunshots,” Tomatis said. “These three presets were popular among gamers who used the PS4 headset companion app and have now been optimized to complement PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech. Users can also create their own presets and save up to three settings for faster access options. Additionally, gamers can adjust these EQ settings while in-game via Control Center, without needing to exit the game.
