OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma beat Texas Tech 8-0 in six games on Friday in the first game of the Big 12 softball tournament for both teams.

The Sooners (49-2) tied the 1997 record with a win over Oklahoma State on Sunday. The program that has won two of the last three national titles has great ambitions.

"We want to go out with a lot of fanfare," said senior fieldman Shay Knighten. "We have one goal in mind and our mission is to carry out this mission, so I think every game is an extra step in fulfilling our mission."

The Sooners closed a Texas Tech team that entered the tournament ranked second in the Big 12 with a batting average of .332.

Oklahoma's pitcher, Giselle "G" Juarez passed a final exam in musical theater in the morning, and then found her rhythm in the circle. She started five innings, gave only one hit and pulled 11 to improve to 22-0 this season. She took a non-hitter in the fourth inning.

Shannon Saile threw the top of the sixth inning, scored one, and pulled out two to preserve the shutout.

"Both are a very good combination together," said Oklahoma coach Patty Gasso. "It was very complete – close this team, one hit, no points – it's a big problem because it's a good team that hits."

Grace Green had two hits and scored three points, and Knighten had two and scored three points for the Sooners seed. The Sooners opened the scoring with two points at the end of the second run and three more at the end of the third.

The Sooners are still looking for the 47-game winning streak of Division I in Arizona, split between 1996 and 1997.
