Oklahoma was unveiled as the No. 1 seed of the NCAA softball tournament in 2019 when the parenthesis was unveiled Sunday.
The best players of Sooners (49-2) won a series of 39 wins in the tournament. It is a record one season for Division I and eight wins out of 47 consecutive wins that Arizona won between 1996 and 1997.
Oklahoma, led by undefeated Giselle Juarez (22-0, 1.26 ERA) and Top 12 player Sydney Romero (batting average of 427, 17 races), is looking to win his third title in four years. The Sooners lead the nation in ERA, the number of picks per game and the batting average.
The last defeat of Oklahoma came on Feb. 22 against UCLA (46-5), who got seed number 2 on Sunday. The Bruins are led by Rachel Garcia, one of two college players chosen to represent the US team this summer.
The defending national champion, Florida State (51-8), the only other team to beat Oklahoma this season, is the No. 4 seed. The Seminoles beat North Carolina on Saturday to win their sixth consecutive title to the ACC tournament. Meghan King, who won both games of the championship series a year ago in Oklahoma City, led the Seminoles with a 29-5 record and a time of 1.36. FSU is the only ranked team in ACC.
Washington (45-7), finalist of last season, is ranked third this year.
For the third year in a row, the 13 SEC teams ranked among the 64 teams. Florida (fifth), Alabama (eighth), LSU (10th), Ole Miss (11th), Tennessee (12th) and Kentucky (14) among the 16 best seeds. The six ranked teams are the most ranked teams of all the conferences.
Florida, who won Saturday's SEC tournament title with a 2-1 win over Alabama, has apparently earned the most generous ranking of SEC teams. Although they won the last showdown with the tide, the Gators were swept in three games by Alabama last month in Gainesville. Alabama (52-7) is ranked fourth in the last top 25 of ESPN.com/USA Softball, and Florida, in eleventh place. The tide has the highest number of wins among all teams in the tournament.
The double elimination regional round starts on Thursday and ends on Sunday. The 16 winners will qualify for the super regional regions, which will be held at eight venues on May 23 and 26. Eight teams qualify for the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City, which opens on May 30. The 2019 National Champion will be crowned June 4th or 5th.
