FC Cincinnati entered the US football arena in 2016 playing USL (now the USL Championship). There, they dominated every measure. Six of their players won the honors of the first USL team. CSTAlthough Fanendo Adi is a DP and will play a leading role in the attack, the belief that Adi is somehow the only offensive threat from FC Cincinnati is not appropriate. In 7 preseason games, FC Cincinnati have seen 6 different players find the back of the net. Darren Mattocks was a positive point with 3 goals and one assist after a season of 10 goals with DC United. He should help out as Adi's partner up or off the bench. Also, beware of fixed pieces. Kendall Waston, Nick Hagglund and potentially Forrest Lasso would be among the back 3s, if not the biggest of the MLS. Lasso and Hagglund both have off-game goals this pre-season and this trio with Adi will be hard to score in the box.
SaH: How will FAC find the width?
CST: When building the club, coach Alan Koch pointed out from the first day that he wanted the rear wings to be raised and lowered in order to provide width. With that in mind, it made sense for the club to come up with two backsters who like to attack in Greg Garza and Alvas Powell. Unfortunately for FC Cincinnati, Garza is injured in the USMNT's January camp and seems more likely to make his debut in the third week against Portland. His replacement, Justin Hoyte, has provided quality service in the USL over the last two seasons, but at age 34, he is not surpassed by anyone of that level. Winger Kekuta Manneh, absent from FC St. Gallen, is recovering from a minor ankle injury. Powell and left wing Roland Lamah will be under a lot of pressure to tackle large areas of the counterattack. If these two do not find the means to launch the attack, FC Cincinnati may have to resort to long balls to Adi to launch any type of attack.
SaH: What is the basic training and system that Cincinnati uses?
CST: Coach Koch has released the 3-4-3 in each of the 7 pre-season games. It would be a shock if it revealed something else. While the team is still building chemistry and two essential members are playing for the game, you can see the backline of 3 men moving towards a back 5, while Hoyte and Powell go even further. In doing so, FC Cincinnati struggled to break a full Columbus team in their final pre-season game, but Powell, Adi and Lamah found several dangerous opportunities to play at the counter. If FC Cincinnati wants to succeed on Saturday, he will need midfielder Victor Ulloa and Leo Bertone to disrupt Lodiero and Adi will have to put his chances away when they show up.

It seems that Justin Hoyte was hit by a strike this week and did not make the trip from Blake Smith, who left USL last year, as a likely substitute in the starting lineup. He was in Montreal two or three seasons ago, but moved to LB in 2017 with Miami. He was pretty much with the 2nd team this pre-season and showed himself vulnerable against the fast players.
