BUFFALO, NY – Buffalo Bills wide receivers Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis will miss the next five days of training after being seen as close contact with a team coach who tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed Tuesday a league source. Defensive tackle Star Lotulelei is also in quarantine, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

All three tested negative for the virus on Tuesday morning, but must miss practice anyway, per NFL COVID-19 policy. The trainer is fully vaccinated, a source told Schefter.

The New York Daily News was the first to report the quarantine of Beasley and Davis.

The NFL policy, which severely restricts unvaccinated players while allowing a return to normalcy for vaccinated players, drew criticism from Beasley in June, when he tweeted that he was not vaccinated and that ‘he would continue to “live my only life the way I want”.

NFL policies include more frequent testing, masks and social distancing on team premises and during team travel for unvaccinated players. It also requires unvaccinated players to stay away from the squad for five days if they are considered close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19; vaccinated players do not have to self-quarantine if they are in close contact.

It was the frequency of testing, however, that Beasley was most critical: unvaccinated players are tested daily under the preseason and training camp policy, while vaccinated players are only required to. test that every two weeks.

“It makes good sense that if a vaxxed or non-vaxxed player is tested less frequently, the likelihood of a player being taken out for COVID drops dramatically,” Beasley said. “Regarding player safety, I will conclude by saying that we all want to be safe.”

Beasley was the Bills’ second-best receiver in 2020, recording 967 yards on 82 catches – two career highs. Meanwhile, Davis’ seven touchdowns were good for the team’s second most in his rookie year last season.
