Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers has a ripped Achilles, and a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter the sophomore star is set to miss the entire 2021 season.

Akers suffered the injury during training and underwent testing to confirm the diagnosis, the source told Schefter.

The Rams announced Akers injury Tuesday morning, but did not disclose an official schedule for how long he will be out.

Akers was expected to be the focal point of the Rams’ running game this season following his rookie breakout campaign, as he averaged 113.1 yards of scrimmage in the last seven games, including the playoffs.

In 13 total regular season games, Akers was the Rams’ leading forward with 625 yards and two touchdowns on 145 carries. He also caught 11 passes for 123 yards and a touchdown.

The 5-10, 217-pound Akers also tallied for 272 scrimmage yards and scored two touchdowns in the Rams’ two playoff games.

Akers, 22, spent two games on the sidelines after sustaining a rib injury in week two when he fell awkwardly on the soccer ball. He also suffered a sprained ankle later in the season.

Selected in the second round (52nd overall) of the 2020 Florida State Draft, Akers shared time last season with Darrell Henderson Jr. and Malcolm Brown.
