Aaron Rodgers turned down an offer of a two-year extension from the Green Bay Packers this offseason, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The deal, according to sources, would have tied the reigning MVP to the Packers for five more seasons and made him the highest-paid quarterback and footballer.
Sources told Schefter in April that Rodgers did not want to return to the squad due to issues with management. Despite his stance, the Packers were adamant they would not trade the triple MVP.
Since then, Rodgers has failed to show up for the Volunteer OTAs for the first time in his career. Training camp is scheduled to start on July 28.
Rodgers, 37, said one of his problems with the team was that general manager Brian Gutekunst had not given him advance notice that the team would move on to the draft from quarterback Jordan Love in 2020.
“With my situation, look, it was never about the draft pick, picking Jordan,” Rodgers told SportsCenter in May. “I love Jordan, he’s a great boy. [We’ve had] a lot of fun working together. I love the coaching staff, I love my teammates, I love the Green Bay fan base. An incredible 16 years old. It’s just kind of a philosophy and maybe forgetting that it’s people who make things happen. It’s about character, it’s about culture, it’s about doing things right. “
Although away from the Packers, Rodgers has remained busy this offseason, most notably as a guest host on “Jeopardy!” and participate in an exhibition golf event designed for television alongside Tom Brady, Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau.
