With All-NBA forward Anthony Davis on the verge of agreeing to a new deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, no formal commitments are expected in the days after free agency begins on Friday, said sources at ESPN.
Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports and agent for Davis, will be in touch with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka after 6 p.m. ET on Friday, sources said, but Davis plans to wait until at least Thanksgiving when he considers his options on the duration and structure of maximum contract agreements.
Davis, 27, has several possible scenarios for a new deal with the Lakers, including a three-year, $ 106 million contract that would include a player option for the 2022-23 season – a structure that would put Davis in line with the end by LeBron. James’ agreement.
Davis could strike a two-year, $ 68 million deal with an option after next year – or longer four-year ($ 146.7 million) and five-year ($ 189 million) deals.
