The Los Angeles Lakers are preparing an offer to Ty Lue in the coming days and do not plan to introduce new candidates into their search for senior coaches, sources close to the league told ESPN.
The team has followed its own schedule throughout this process and has not yet offered the position to a candidate, sources told the league.
Read has always been a favorite thanks to the knowledge of his X & O. His strong relationship with LeBron James is also considered positive. But Lue impressed the team during interviews with his basketball spirit and his strategic approach to this Lakers formation, sources close to the process said.
The team's other candidate, Monty Williams, agreed to become the Phoenix Suns head coach Friday morning without knowing the Lakers' plans, league sources said.
Sources said the Lakers were determined to stick to their own schedule to make that decision, regardless of what the other teams and candidates did.
