Sources – The Lakers will soon be talking to Vogel again

Former Orlando Magic and Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel made a strong impression during his meeting with the Los Angeles Lakers and both teams plan to re-start the team's head coaching position soon. ESPN officials told the league.

After the two main Lakers targets, Monty Williams and Ty Lue, rejected the franchise's offerings, the Lakers reset their search and Vogel is becoming a serious candidate, sources said. Vogel flew to Los Angeles on Thursday and met with Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka and his office and discussed in detail how he would consider taking over a volatile situation.

Vogel was Jeff Hornacek's finalist when Phil Jackson hired a replacement for Derek Fisher in the summer of 2016. Jackson remains strongly tied to a Lakers hierarchy that includes majority owner Jeanie Buss and advisor Kurt Rambis.

The Lakers are under tremendous pressure to join LeBron James with a suitable replacement for Luke Walton and begin to soothe the turmoil surrounding the organization.

Although Vogel must be judged on two difficult years with the Magic in which he won 29 and 25 games with a team that is rebuilding, he's built a solid reputation over his five seasons with the Pacers, where they have increased to two. Eastern Conference finals during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.
